The very word, Marble, conjures in our minds the great sculptures of the ancient and medieval worlds. It may surprise you to see that marble is not restricted to bright white colorations, but may have a pink, and even green tint.

The white marbles of the famed stones of the Carrara quarry near Genoa, Italy, are filled with dark striata, or lines, which are valued for the light effect of shading that they produced when seen from a few feet away.
